Part of the PaintEasy Paint by Numbers Series — Home Decor: Landscape. A narrow white beacon rises above layered Atlantic water while the last amber light cuts through the storm. This 16 × 20 in (40 × 50 cm) portrait design is deliberately fictional: it borrows the emotional charge of a breaking-weather headline without copying a news photograph, a real lighthouse, a forecast map or a damaged community.
Why I painted the light, not the disaster
Search interest around Hurricane Isaias brought the subject of Atlantic storms back into conversation. As a creator, I was drawn to the quieter image inside that story—the moment a fixed point stays visible while everything around it is moving. The tower is simple and upright; the sea does the expressive work. Teal swells lean in different directions, navy clouds fold across the upper sky, and the single warm window gives the whole composition a center.
This is not intended as documentary art. There is no coastline to identify and no claim that the scene shows the named storm. The topical inspiration becomes a timeless coastal painting about endurance, guidance and returning home. That makes the finished canvas suitable for a study, reading corner, beach house or calm blue bedroom long after the news cycle has passed.
A palette with a clear painting rhythm
The image begins with generous fields of deep blue, muted turquoise and cloud grey. Those larger shapes are forgiving and satisfying to cover. The challenge arrives later in the curved foam lines, narrow railings and small slices of amber light, so the overall difficulty is EASY-ADVANCED. It works well for an adult painter who wants a relaxing start and a more focused finish.
Follow the real PaintEasy collection path
Begin with All Paint by Numbers Kits, continue into Landscape Paint by Numbers, and then narrow the subject to our Lighthouse Paint by Numbers collection. That is the direct parent-to-subject route for this design. If the rolling water interests you more than the architecture, Ocean Paint by Numbers is a related coastal collection to browse alongside it, not an extra step in the hierarchy.
What arrives in your chosen kit
-
One numbered portrait canvas, 16 × 20 in (40 × 50 cm), printed for this exact artwork
-
Pre-mixed acrylic paint pots matched to the Atlantic blues, storm greys and warm light
-
Three brushes for broad water shapes, medium cloud work and fine architectural details
-
A printed reference image for color and composition guidance
The paint colors and artwork are the same in every format. No Frame is supplied as a rolled canvas for custom mounting. DIY Frame adds wooden stretcher bars for assembly at home. Framed Canvas arrives already stretched and prepared so you can begin painting without building the support first.
How I would approach the canvas
Start at the top and establish the darkest cloud bands before moving into the broad water shapes. Paint the white tower only after the surrounding blues are dry; that keeps its edge crisp and prevents muddy color. Next, connect the sea with the curved teal and pale-grey wave sections. Save the foam, railings and glowing windows for the final session. Two thin coats will usually make the pale areas cleaner than one heavy coat, and a slightly damp fine brush helps the brightest wave lines stay controlled.
When finished, step back before adding extra touch-ups. The design is meant to read from across a room: a clean vertical tower, a turbulent horizontal sea and one small source of warmth. Keeping that balance is more important than making every wave perfectly smooth.
