Warm ochre siding sits behind dark work clothes, while the two faces hold the centre of the composition.

PaintEasy revisits Grant Wood's American Gothic with a simplified tribute within the Famous paintings series. The recognisable composition is adapted for painting by numbered areas.

Build the portrait around its strongest lines

The farmhouse boards and jacket become broader painted areas; tiny dress motifs are reduced so they do not dominate the work. The eyes, glasses and mouth still ask for a steady hand. Completing those small accents after the surrounding skin tones helps keep both expressions clear.

Let the dark clothing settle first

Paint the jacket and dress in separate sessions, then return to the lighter collar and pitchfork highlights once the neighbouring areas are dry.

A portrait to make and keep

Choose the 40 × 50 cm portrait canvas, approximately 16 × 20 inches, with No Frame, DIY Frame or Framed Canvas. Numbered canvas, matching acrylic paints and brushes form the painting kit; Framed Canvas refers to a pre-stretched canvas on internal bars.

Weathered clapboards, dark work clothes and a formal pose give the pair a distinctly old-fashioned presence. It is a natural companion to our vintage paint by numbers, while the portrait collection offers other faces and expressions to study.

Product images show an illustrated finished result and display mockups. You receive a DIY kit to paint, rather than an original Grant Wood artwork; the tribute is independently adapted.

Match each numbered paint pot to the corresponding section on the canvas.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0697/2470/0862/files/painteasy-rural-gothic-pair-white-front-v2.png?v=1792232198
